Electrical Building Maintenance

Course #105

This is an instructor led, competency based program designed for the development of building mainte- nance electricians. The course teaches the student how to use electrical meters and how to trouble-shoot general purpose electrical systems. The student is trained to find and fix the failed part on the first try.

Prerequisite:

The student should have at least 1 year work experience in building maintenance

Format:

Determined by customer needs. Ideal max time frame should be 5 hours.

Learner Outcomes:

  1. The student will be given a circuit to demonstrate several times the ability to measure low DC voltage, current and resistance.

  3. The student will wire a low voltage lighting panel using single pole single throw switch, single pole double throw switch and a double pole double throw switch.

  5. Given a power panel the student will demonstrate the ability to use proper lock-out, tag-out and try procedures.

  7. The student will be able to interpret a single line electrical drawing.

  9. Given a power panel the student will demonstrate several times the ability to measure voltage, amperage and resistance in a 120-240 volt systems
  10.  
  11. Given a power panel the student will demonstrate the ability to diagnose and change defective breakers.
  12.  
  13. Given a general power and lighting panel the student will be able to troubleshoot the fault and replace the defective switch, receptacle or lighting ballast.
